Why My Parents Had It So Good

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"During the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL ILLEGAL aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens. Harry Truman deported over two million illegals after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans and, again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican Nationals so that so that WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took two years, but they deported them! "
Now I understand why my parents generation had so many job choices, were able to live on one salary, were able to buy new cars every few years, were able to purchase homes and furnish them with modern items. Now I understand why our parents were able to spoil their children with toys - not just necesities. Why our businesses grew strong and 'Made in America' meant something good. Why people knew they could still have good lives after retirement.
Our parents did not have to compete with people here illegally for the available jobs, salaries and housing.
Businesses employed Americans who cared about their company and what it's products said about America.
Their employees were usually their neighbors, not strangers who didn't even speak English, and all felt a responsibility toward each other. Many people stayed with one company all their working lives and retired with really great benefits. Many employers treated their workers as family and some even gave up bonuses and/or took cuts in salary to keep their workers when things were slow. Workers were rewarded for good work and staying with the company for years.
After all - they were all Americans - woring to improve their neighborhoods and their country.
The Greatest Generation deported illegal aliens and built a successful country.
Now we ignore and/or protect illegal aliens and our country is going down the drain.
Now employers want to hire the cheapest labor available, fire people when their salaries get too high, deny the employees reasonable health benefits and cut back on, or misuse, their retirement benefits so there is nothing left for them when they retire. And if they can't find cheap enough labor in America they will just send their business overseas where people are so poor they will take anything. All this just so they can have big bonuses at the end of the year.
After all  - we aren't all Americans anymore. We are just a patchwork of many nationalities and languages.
And many are here illegally with no interest in improving the neighborhoods or the country.
Now I understand - and I know its too late for my generation - but is it too late for our children and grandchildren?
